I work with individuals with disabilities. One individual lives in my home. I am contracted through a private company that gets paid from the state. Our pay doesn't get taxed because the individuals fall under the difficulty of care act.

I believe that I am considered self employed.

My question is: all of the expenses and mileage that I have acumilated over this past year that involve this individual, are the tax deductible?

I have put over 13,000 mile on my vehicles and a few thousand dollars in food since september when I took on this individual.

If all that travel was done as part of your self-employment then much of it is tax-deductible. I would recommend you get some Tax preparation software, like Quicken, and follow the instructions for claiming the expenses.
