Tax Rebate

Filing 2007 taxes as married filing jointly. AGI of $26,855. If I contribute $650 to an IRA, we will receive $1,275 back. The amount paid in for federal tax was 1,275.19

Qx: What is the Bush Tax Rebate based on, exactly? Can we expect $1,200 or will it be less if we are getting back most of the federal tax (not including SSI and Medicare). I have not found any specific information.

If you paid $1,200 in taxes to the federal government, your rebate check will be fore $1,200 the max allowed.

it is based on how much you paid in taxes, you will get up the $1,200 assuming you paid at least that much in federal taxes.

the cut off point where you start to lose that rebate is $75,000 and you are well under that.

Thank you for your response and I guess part of my (unwritten) question actually was " is this based on how much was paid in?" We will receive $1275 back for OVERPAYMENT (after contribution to IRA). So even though we will be paying in for SS and Medicare, WE WILL GET BACK MOST OF THE FEDERAL TAX PAYMENT ITSELF. In that case, since we are not paying $1200 for federal tax or even $600 will we be receiving less? Thanks, again.
