Acer Aspire ASE700-ED430A

I am trying to install a WD 320 gig new hard drive in this pc.
The drive is not formatted yet.
I use my bootable win xp cd to boot.
It will load all of the things necessary to install xp.
When it gets to the part that says starting windows I get the messagr that the system was shut down to prevent damage.
Tells me that the hd is virus infected or bad and will not let me format and install xp.
Any help please.

Before you can install the OS you need to create a partirion and format it. I would suggest formatting in NTFS. Do a Google search for "Tutorials +install Windows" XP for all the details. This is a pretty good one... http://www.5starsupport.com/tutorial/xpinstall.htm
