It is not S-video. S-Video is actually an older format cable style from years ago. I remember that my Neo Geo cart system had an S-Video out on it and back then, it was big news.
I don't have an HDTV yet, but I would use gold plated composite cables. Those are the 3 cables for Red Blue Green, or RGB. There are some that are the 5 colors that are used in print colors (if I remember right).
I know there are a few other HDTV experts that visit this site once in a while, maybe they will chime in with another answer.
