I think you are a little confused on the names so let me help you to understand.

Blu-Ray is an optical disc storage media format. Its main uses are high-definition video and data storage. The disc has the same dimensions as a standard DVD or CD.

HD DVD is pretty much the same thing as Blu-Ray its just another competitor in the high definition video market.

HDTV is a high definition television set. That you would play your high defintion video's on.

To view a Blu-Ray disc or HD DVD disc properly you will need an HDTV.

now recently Blu-Ray won the High Def video war and is now being accepted as the standard for HD Discs. So while you can find a HD DVD player for cheaper than a Blu-Ray player please make note that HD DVD players and DVDs are being discontinued.

Blu-ray is the next thing in DVDs

it has nothing to do with changing how your tv works or making it clearer.

but an HDTV tv would make your blu-ray movies more clearer when you watch them

Blu ray has nothing to do with the clarity of your HDTV while not watching movies.

blu ray is just the next gen dvd format. and is in 1080i and the high end HDTV players can output at that resolution.

if you aren't watching a movie, just make sure you have the HDTV feeds from your cable or dish provider
