Screen Print & Capture 32 3.5 is a free program you can use to take screenshots.
You can either press the prt sc (print screen) button to copy the whole desktop, or press the alt + prt sc button to just capture the active window. This will create a bitmap image which will be saved to your computer's clipboard.
If you're using a laptop, you have to also hold the button marked fn which is usually located on the bottom left of your keyboard. This is because on a laptop, the prt sc button is a function key. So you press fun + prt sc buttons together. The + sign in my instructions means to press two or more buttons at the same time...not pressing the plus key on your keyboard.
Then you can right click and paste the captured image into your favourite word processing or email programme.
Another option is to download a programme that will do this for you as well as having more functionality. A simple free programme that you can use to manually crop the image that you want to grap is called "Cropper". Another one is called "screenhunter".
Bitmap picture files are not the way to go.
If you want to take snapshot of the entire screen just press PrintScreen. Open MSPAINT.EXE (Start -> Run -> mspaint.exe) and then goto Edit -> Paste. Save the file to <filename>.jpg or even .png. These formats are more web friendly and it will reduce the size of your image.
If you want to take a shot of just one window, rather than the whole screen, hold down the ALT key while pressing the PrintScreen key.
Hope this helps!
