Netbook PC vs laptop PC - which is better?

Please say why. I'm especially interested in knowing the pros and cons from anyone who's gone from one to the other. To clarify, Netbook is like a very small-sized laptop but still with a touch-typable keyboard - I'm not talking about Tablets here.

There not really much difference between a Netbook and a low specification Laptop.

When comparing a typical laptop to a typical netbook the netbook will have a lower power processor, less RAM, smaller hard disk etc. The netbook probably won't have an internal DVD/CD-ROM drive, and may also lack an ethernet port (using a wireless connection instead) and other ports - like memory card readers or external video connections etc.

Netbooks are fine for low power tasks like browsing the web, email and simple office type tasks but probably won't be much good for, say, advanced multi-tasking or editing video.

Hope that helps.

That depends on your needs. Laptops are more powerful. Netbooks are more portable (and tend to have a longer battery life).

They serve two different market segments - usually Netbooks tend to be slightly smaller in size and capability in comparison to a Laptop. Netbooks also generally weigh less than a typical laptop.

If you find that you are mainly using your computer for emailing and low intensity computing (as in simple word processing, surfing the web) and don't want to carry a heavy laptop then go for a Netbook, very suitable for that busy Lady on the go. Since a netbook quite easily will fit into a medium sized handbag.

On the other hand if you are doing more intense computing and using a lot of computing resources then go for a laptop, as it allows for greater scope for upgrade in system resources and usually have more powerful CPU's and system boards.

Hope this has will help.

Netbooks are just a variation of a laptop PC. Netbooks increased their portability by decreasing the size and the weight of an ordinary laptop but with unwanted effects like weak processors, no video cards among others.

If you want to use programs like photoshop or play games, you should go for a laptop. Netbooks are usually for just surfing the web.

Laptops is better than netbook PC
Laptops is more cool than netbook. there is a perfect heatsink and processor cooler on laptops. and any one know if laptops PC is more upgradable on RAM. Laptops have more highest FBUS on system board. But if you just want to connect on the internet or just for surfing, you can pick a netbook for budget reasons.

Depends on your needs.
Netbooks are simply for internet tasks, such as email, blogs, browsing and chat,
Laptops are good for office computing such as Powerpoint presentations and excel sheets.
Netbooks do lack speed and processing power for video editting, photoshop and other processor heavy programs.

Prices of netbooks are cheaper than laptops since they are more light and compact and uses cheaper processors.

So if you really need to be working on the go with applications and office work. A laptop is best for you. If you are more on just using the internet. A netbook will be sufficient.

I haven't made the transition to a netbook. However, I think I know a bit about the two, and so I'll share my opinion here. Netbooks are basically, as the name goes, computers that are meant to be used for applications that are heavily dependent on a network, be it the internet, or any other network. These devices quite often have good connectivity options, since the bulk of the activity that a typical user would perform on such a device will involve the internet. They do not have powerful configurations, and quite often are like smartphones on the inside, with a reduced laptop chassis on the outside.

Netbooks are an excellent economic option for those who use their computers mainly for accessing the internet. They do not need powerful configurations. Hence, these devices serve them well. The pros of having a netbook are the increased portability, connectivity, and the low price. The cons are that they are near incapable of doing anything far beyond checking your email and browsing the internet, or typing out the occasional Word document. If you would like the full-fledged experience, then it would be advisable to spend a little extra and pick up a laptop instead of a netbook.

Thanks to everyone for your great answers. I felt that I got a lot of help here from the different viewpoints, but ultimately Rcscsuk did the best job about educating me about netbooks vs laptops.
