What is Intel virtualization technology

When I go to bios there is this option of Intel Virtualization technology or something like that I need to know what is it ? as it is turned off by default should I turn it on ?

The option is applicable if you intend to run 'Virtual Machines' on your computer.

Virtual machine software enables you to run, say, a virtual Microsoft XP machine 'within' your normal operating system e.g. Windows 7. Some of these VM software products can make use of specific motherboard level capabilities which increase the performance of such virtual machines - the BIOS option that you see 'Intel Virtualization Technology' enables or disables access to these capabilities.

If you're not running Virtual Machines then I can't think of any reason to have it enabled in your BIOS.
