What is a "One component input jack?"

I am looking at a 32" TFT LCD HDTV (1080i display).

One of the items in product features is a "One component input jack (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i)".

What does this mean & how is it beneficial?

Thanks!

There are two ways to deliver a High Definition signal to your TV from an external device. One is the analog method and the other is digital.

YPbPr is the analog way of connecting external device such as a PS3 or Cable TV box to the TV. It enables you to to deliver High Definition signals up to 1080p to the TV.

You are being told that the TV has one of these input connections. It is best to pick a TV that has three input connections if possible so that you can connect up more than one device to the TV.

A component cable that has three RCA type connector plugs (see below picture) on either end. The cable has a Green, Blue & Red plug. It is known as a component cable. In Europe one or both ends can be SCART type connectors. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YPbPr for more information.

The other way to connect external devices up to the TV is via a digital HDMI connector http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdmi

If your external device and TV have HDMI connectors, these are the best way to connect them together.
