Usually when a CD player breaks, the lens is shot. Meaning, you need a new CD player. They are not worth fixing, and are usually meant as throw-a-ways. Unless you have a super expensive audio rack mounted CD player, replace it.
They all break after enough use.
Check the obvious first ie that the batteries are good!
Next, try a CD lens cleaner as you haven't said what is wrong with the player.
If that doesn't fix it you can take it to your local repair shop and if it's going to cost you more than 50% of the cost to buy a new one, then buy a new one.
It's up to you if you want to open the unit to see if any rubber drive belts have snapped but be careful if you do.
How do you fix a cd player? Sometimes if you open up the disk pod and blow into it and it is dusty, the dust will clear off the laser and than it will read cd's again.
