HDTV viewing with my 1080p sony tv

I just bot a 1080p SONY TV. I have basic cable. If sports channels say "This is broadcast in HD" do I automatically receive HD? because my TV is 1080p. OR Do i need to subscribe to HDTV via Satellite or cable???

You have to subscribe to HDTV channels into order to view them on your fancy new HDTV tv.

Otherwise, it would be like watching normal tv. If you have the TV it is worth the subscription costs to upgrade to HDTV feeds.
