HDTV - what do I need to do to my current "Home Theater" to be ready?

I bought a 42" Samsung rear projection tv in 2003. It was sold to me as "HDTV" ready. But what does that really mean? How ready am I? What do I need to do to receive HDTV? I currently use a satellite receiver for my signal.

HDTV Ready means the TV can accept HDTV signals but can't process them itself. This is good actually. Most likely you will have a HDTV decoder/tuner from your cable company - and you don’t need a full "HDTV". For it to be HDTV it has to accept ATSC signals and be able to process them. I love my high def more than anyone - and it does not matter to me if my TV is "HDTV Ready" or "HDTV".

To get HDTV you need a HDTV decoder box from your satellite company. They will probably charge you $10 to $30 more per month - but it's worth it!

By the way - I have quite a lot of experience with HDTVs. I actually proudly own a Samsung DLP. That is my favorite TV, so you went with a good brand.

Andrew is right, you will still need to get a HDTV receiver and cable or satellite package to get HDTV signals. right away you can tell that there is a huge difference in picture quality and well worth it.

You will need to contact your satellite company and tell them you want HDTV feeds and you may need a new box to get them, and it will cost you more money per month

HDTV Ready just means that it can accept a HDTV signal.

so you just need to get an HDTV satellite or cable service for your tv

If you have a cable or satelite providor you are fine, the converter boxes are only for people who use rabbit ears or other attentea to get a signal.
