Help with drum

I just bought a used FR 3950 UI riso with 4 color drums. 3 of the drums work fine but when I put in the black drum it tells me WRONG CARTRIDGE INSTALLED. The cartridge in the drum is about 2/3 empty so I feel it was working. When I put in a new cartridge that came with the drum (RP BLACK riso soy ink, Riso ink G1) It gives me the same thing. I have checked the switches on the drum and they seem to be right. the ink is several years old is that a problem.
