I don't know the Zire and what it lets you do, or what it prevents you from doing, but try plugging it in to your computer and then go to Windows Explorer and see if it shows up as a device with all your drives. If it does, browse it and either look for a music directory or create a directory and see if you can copy your music files over to it.
