I have a relatively new television that gets a good picture (at least to my eye)

Do I need to get a new television set--or a box of some kind--to receive standard comcast cable broadcasts in HDTV? If so what5 will my additional investment be?

If your TV is HD then you will need to contact your cable company about upgrading to the HD Cable box. It only cost a little bit more than the regular box. Also note that the hd channels are different than your local channels. So if you are used to watching fox 35 the hd channel would probably be 1135.

If the tv is not HD then you will need to get a converter box which will give you the best picture your tv is capable of.

It doesn't sound like you have an HD tv do you?

in order to get an HD channel you must own a HD TV, plus, pay the higher subscription feeds to Comcast to get the HDTV feeds.

so figure, $600 for a new good HDTV plus, maybe another $20 (just guessing on this) a month to add the HDTV channels to your cable package.
