1) Self Serving Link
A self serving link is one which serves your interest in any way, i.e., a link to your own website or links to your articles on other sites.

2) A Live Link (Active Link)
Any link which is clickable is a live link or an active link.

3) Inactive Link
Any link which is not clickable is an inactive link.

A self-serving link is a link to a site that you own, run or have an interest in. Most article directories only allow you to have your self-serving links in the resource box at the end of the article. although I think some will allow them in the body of the article too. Affiliate links are seen as self-serving, but are not allowed by many article directories. Make sure you read the TOS so you know how many self-serving links you are allowed and where.

A live link is one that is clickable - usually one where you have added the relevant html code in the article body or resource box.

An inactive link is just text that doesn't have the necessary html code to make it clickable.
