I agree. Sometimes you just can't stand something that has happened to one of your friends and you should be able to express that. Also, I think there should be an, "I understand" button. Sometimes you do not like what someone is saying, but you can relate or you are in the same boat.

The reason is because facebook is a social website where you meet people, make friends with them and show love. It is not a site to show hatered. If you don't like anyone on facebook, don't add them but if you have already add them, there is a remove friend button where you can remove them.

I hope there is never a "hate" button on Facebook®. There is already too much hate in this world. Meanwhile there is already too much bullying going on on Facebook®, just what we need is for kids to be able to click that they 'hate' each other. Now, if there were a dislike button, and it could only be clicked on comments and groups, then maybe that would be ok. In the meantime, why not just be happy with the positive side of things. Work to find things that are good about life and what goes on rather than the opposite! Be the change you want to see in the world, pay it forward, do unto others as you would have them do to you!

Although a dislike or hate button would be welcomed by most Facebook users the reason that the website has not added such an option is that it could open the site up to a lot of abuse. We would all hope that the use of a "hate" button would be used judiciously but it's implimentation would allow bullying and harrassment to make it's way onto the platform.

There would be reports of cyber-bullying on Facebook being linked to teen suicide and a lot of thumbing down of unpopular political beliefs and what some would feel is unwarranted criticism. It would not be the warm and fuzzy place that Mark Zuckerberg are looking to position Facebook as and could you imagine being able to thumb down advertising?

If you don't actively 'like' a Facebook status then the logic is that you either dislike or as is usually the case, are completely disinterested.

I strongly agree with you Simey, these people are just interested in making everything seem like a perfect paradise where there no room for people not to hate or dislike anything. It's a sick thought that they are just willing to make their things looking beautiful instead of allowing us the use to show our true opinion about things, which is only left for comments on a page or picture that can easily be deleted by the page, picture, or profile owner. They are just worried about marketing and making money, nothing else. There really should be a Like and a Hate or Dislike button, it would do nothing more than allow us to share our true thoughts and opinions about the things we come across over there.

A hate button would be bad promotion. It might sound corny, but hate is a very strong word & I doubt that Facebook wants to promote that kind of negative energy flowing around. If you don't like a status, write some feedback / comment about it.
No button will ever fully show your thoughts & feelings.

There are hate button extensions that supposedly can be used on Facebook. These extensions are not officially associated with Facebook. I believe the Google Chrome browser features one or two of these free Facebook extensions in their Chrome Extension Library. You can also check to see if Firefox has any Facebook add-ons that include a hate button. I know the hate button extensions work, because I have actually seen a couple of them next to Facebook comments on a couple of Facebook walls (not mine).

Personally, I would not use a hate button extension, because it is not in harmony with the main purpose of Facebook, which is to have friends, not enemies. If I should come across a comment I disagree with, I would write a comment stating my views, but I would not wish to use a hate button. Also, if I don't like a post or comment on Facebook, I usually simply pass it up and do not offer any response. I do make an effort to like wall posts and comments that deserve a "like" vote, as real people "like" to be encouraged by others.
