SD vs HD

Hello,
I just purchased a DVD recorder/HDD with a built in SDTV tuner thinking that I would be able to pick up HD signals. I have 2 TVs with built in HD tuners, but my other TV is just HD ready. I am only getting 480p signals. Are there any units out there with the same features that actually receive an HD signal. I don't necessarily need to be able to record in HD. Also, I paid $200, is there anything in this price range? Thanks.

SDTV is a standard def tuner, basically the normal quality picture. 480p is the current resolution of normal tv.

so that is why you are only getting 480p with this, because it is a standard def quality recorder.
