Free firewall like sygate would be good start. Sygate is a really good firewall. Next step would be a good antispyware. Spyware doctor would be good you get a 30 free trial. Antivirus like Mcafee would be your next step. Disable your firewall from Mcafee and use sygate it is better.

To stay ahead of hackers I recommend a triple play approach:

1) Install Microsoft Security Essentials which you can download from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/MSE

2) Use a secure Web Browser and I recommend Internet Explorer 8.

3) Use the inbuilt Windows firewall

Best of all, these anti-hacker/malware tools are all free!

Finally, make sure that you have installed all of the Windows updates that have been released for your operating system.

Thanks very much indeed for the great question!
