What is the best way to register a domain name?

For a fun site that is primarily a blog with pics and maybe some links, what would be the best way to go about registering a domain? I've used Register.com and godaddy.com. I've also run across webpalace.com but I'm thinking there has to be a more cost effective way of doing it. You'd think I'd know but....

Register.com is the best that I have used. There may be cheaper out there but I also like the interface for ongoing maintenance.

I personally use GoDaddy.com another big one is enom.com

Unless you have crazy traffic of demanding server needs the hosting packages at goDaddy are cheap. and if you know enough about the web to set up your own blog with wordpress or another package, or to set up your email through Google Apps for your domain http://www.google.com/a (gotta love free 5gb email on your domain). then you can do it off some very basic packages that godaddy has.

also, can you use http://www.googlepages.com with apps for your domain to do some basic WYSIWYG pages.

and i would avoid geocities. it is worth the $10/yr to register a domain and set it up under google pages.
