Why is my sond not working on my lab top?

I tried to go into settings and everthing is telling me that is ok but the sound is still not working

your volume muted , or down , your sound card is bad , some setting has changed in audio properties, you could have lost your audio drives , try some external speakers ,could be a number of things ,you might get some P C shop to try a sound card in your card slot to see if that works before your spend alot of money
