I always guessed the name was inspired by Genesis - the apple taken from the tree of knowledge. Don't know for sure though.

You mean the evil apple that adam consumed that was the downfall of man! lol

I think steve jobs worked as an apple picker or something didn't he. In the Pirates of silicon valley (haven't seen it in a while - I think he wanted a warm and fuzzy name since his competition was IBM which sounded so cold. Hippie at heart?

I'm curious to see what the article said...

It has nothing to do with Genesis and the downfall of man by eating the forbidden fruit.

Could be partially because of the apple picker part, if that is what he did do back before the days of Apple Computer, but it wasn't part of the quote I read from him.

Are you trying to call Steve Jobs a Hippie? LOL

I always heard that Jobs came up with the name Apple in memory of a summer he had spent as an orchard worker in Oregon.

I have also heard that the bitten apple is a homage to the mathematician Alan Turing (regarded as one of the fathers of the computer), who committed suicide by eating an apple he had laced with cyanide. "Byte into an Apple"
