Will hdmi improve my picture over rf connection even when viewing 480i content?

Just bought a Mitsubishi 52" LCD HDTV, connected now through dish network non HD receiver via rf connection. the picture is blurry at times, certain scenes blur or when watching sports, it really seems that certain scenes are blurry, particularly peoples faces. Will an HDMI connection improve this even while not viewing HD content. Also, I watched a standard definition DVD last night using a DVD player that upconverts to 1080p and the picture was Awsome! I just don;t kow if I will have to watch ALL HD content just to get a good picture. Any suggestions? Of course the picture doesn't really improve with any of the different aspect ratios, I have 6 different ratios to choose from. Do you think it is my tv or am i just expecting something i shouldn't since i am new to HDTV. I have not yet watched a true HDTV program on my set, waiting to get the receiver switched over.
