Winamp vs Windows Media Player

I get an email @ work and the attachment plays on windows media player. I forward it to my home computer and it plays on winamp. Why does this happen and how can I get the attachment to play on windows media player at home? I don't have winamp on my work computer.

Your windows media player at work is set to be your default player, while winamp is set as your default player at home. You will need to open windows media player at home, click on the tools tab, and "options" and set it as your default player, or just do what I did and Uninstall Winamp.

You don't need to uninstall winamp.

you just need to change the settings on what winamp thinks it can do.

Right Click on it
Options -> Preferences

then the third to the top option (at least on my install) is File Types under General Preferences.

You should see either .avi or .wmv as highlighted. un-highlight, hit close. and try and open it again.

what this did was de-associate that filetype with winamp.
