This could be caused by either a faulty floppy drive, bad floppy disk, loose cable connection to the back of the floppy drive (or USB cable) or a system BIOS setting.
Some computers also have a "floppy write protection feature in the BIOS and disabling this feature resolves the issue.

Hello...try putting a little piece of black tape over the square hole and see if that works.

If you go into "My computer" and click on your A drive, do you get an error about needing to format the floppy or you can hear the floppy motor going and the floppy is being read and there are no files on it?

Yes i do here the floppy being read. when i click on the A: drive the floppy engauges but no error pops up until i try to wirte to. I am trying to complete a class lab from my text book that ask me to write file to the floppy in MS-DOS from the command prompt and the write protection error message pops up everytime. Oh..... and covering the tab didn't work either! I will chek the cable before i replace the drive. Thanks
