What age do you have to pay child support?

My son conceived a child at the age of 15 and the girl was 17 and now she's mad because he's involve with another girl. Should he have to pay back child support since my son is now 17 and still in school and she is 19 and just graduated?

He is a MINOR and she is an adult, legally speaking. He is not able to be assesed for anything until he is 18. However be aware that as his parent YOU are legally responsiable for him until he turns 18 so she could assess him for child support but the actual financial responsibility will fall to the parent until he turns 18, just as if he broke a neighbors window. And often times the court will rule that child support is due retroactively to the birth of the child unless the parents were married or living together at that time and your son can prove that he was SUBSTANCIALLY supporting his child by more than 51% since he was born ,the court probably will make child support retroactive. Meaning if she was still in school and she and the child were living at home they were being supported by HER parents.Once he turns 18 he WILL be required by the court to help support this child reguardless of if hes in school, how much he earns, or how much the mother earns. This is determined by a sliding scale that takes both parents incomes and time spent with the child into consideration. SO dad will be required to make a contribution even if he is unemployed or in school, the court will assess what IT believes is a resonable amount(WHICH IT NEVER IS). My suggestion is that your son and this girl try a a professional mediator to work out their own agreement in reguards to child support and make sure your son has some sort of visitation for that child. If your son is not contesting paternity, this is a better and cheaper solution that can accomadate your sons needs and situation and his childs needs than if the court is involved. I once saw a judge assess a 600$ a month child support due on a minimum wage father due within the next 15 days and when the father complained he couldnt meet that obligation the judge told him TOO BAD and to get a 2nd job at night. Your son is entitled by law to see his child (as long as he is not unfit) but whether he does or not he is still required and will be required to support that child.

The boys parent should have been held responsable for child support until the boy was old enough to work and pay his own support for the child. Just because he is only 15 (which is young) it is not only the girls fault.
