Why rude?

Why are people so rude? Why would anyone want to be like that? How would it make anyone feel good about themselves?

Not everyone is rude. But some people don't have the ability to look at how their behaviour affects others. Maybe they're selfish or preoccupied or maybe no one was ever nice to them.

This sort of overly-general question won't get you a useful answer, unless you just wanted to vent.

Is there a specific incident you want to discuss?

Yes. I guess your right PallasAthena, so i would walk in the hallways of school and people would just laugh at you. Maybe it's a pimple, or you are wearing all black and gray completely on accident. I normally don't get made fun of at school. I'm not the type of person to be made fun of. I get along with almost everyone. But there are just the few people that will be so rude. And if I answer a question out loud, those kids would laugh and IDK why.

Omigosh there are so many potential answers to this question, and of course, no truly correct one. So lemme see ....

1. Manners, propriety, and social norms have relaxed over the years to the point that it is no longer necessary to present oneself with dignity or self-control or to treat others with respect. It's difficult to say what the consequences for being rude were in the past, considering how many different levels of society there were with varying standards, but at the very least, one could expect disapproval and disassociation. These days, there are practically no consequences for rudeness.

2. Social skills that used to be learned in schools, churches, and civic groups are no longer learned there as more people retreat to their living rooms and computer hutches, which encourage isolation and anonymity. Even when out in public, people learn to expect a real or imaginary protective bubble around themselves, sort of like the automobile and the road rage associated with it or conducting loud (and sometimes intimate) cellphone calls in front of everyone.

3. Life in these United States has with time become more harried and stressful, quite contrary to the many claims and promises of time- and labor-savings as each new gadget, process, or technology is developed and adopted. Job security, where one might have used to expect to stay with one employer long term, sometimes even for an entire career, has vanished in favor of fast turnover and constant reskilling as workplace expectations struggle to keep up with the marketplace. In addition, many job tasks that used to be performed for professionals (often licensed ones) have been delegated to underlings who derive no added financial benefit but now share liability with their bosses.

4. The world is in flux, with wars, governments, and economies rising and falling unpredictably. Expectations of increased health and longevity, educational accomplishment, and standard of living have all reversed as the factors that support those expectations ebb away. So competition among people to secure diminishing returns on effort lead inevitably to cutthroat manipulation and a mentality of all-against-all struggle.

Enough to start with?

Minnie, an old housemate and good friend said this about jerks who lose control over your sweater or zit and have to scream "OH MY GAWD YOO GUYZ LOOK !" "AAAAIIIIEEEE!"---

"People who care don't matter, and people who matter don't care."

Remember that. No one worth knowing is going to think "Wow I wish I could scream like that, I bet that is the best fun a person could ever have. Golly gee wiz."

You can always ask if they'd mind repeating themselves, there may have been a few people in Brazil who didn't hear it the first time. Or you can say, "Sorry, what'd you say?" Then when they repeat it, just look right at them and say, "Yeah, that's what I thought you said", and walk away.

I have delt with many rude people at my job. I have both delt with customers and people I work with. Sometimes people can be rude because they have things going on in their life that they don't know how to deal with. Them. Ask them if they wa So they end up taking it out on everyone else. You just need to ask them if there is anything bothering them. Ask them if they wanna talk about the problem sometime. When dealing with angry people don't show fear or back down. They will just keep acting that way. Shower them with kindness. If your angry back it will just make them more angry and the problem worse. I wish you the best of luck and hope things get better.
