Going to Mexico in two weeks with some friends - Passport?

If you travel outside the country - it's usually a good idea to have your passport. However, the answer depends on the method of travel you do..

Air - You need a passport to re-enter the US. You don't need a passport to enter Mexico though.

Land / Sea - You need two forms of ID, which can be birth certificate, drivers license, identification card, or passport.

Overall - the risk / benefit is twofold. Having your passport makes any issues / altercations easier as it's easier for a foreign government to identify you. (verus using some state's ID card) However, you also run the risk of losing it which can be a hassle too. I do not leave the country without my passport.

Plus - it's cool to have all those stamps in your passport from all the international trips you've been on. Sort of fun to flip back through once you have 10 or 20 stamps / attached documents.
