Identification Card

My husband was placed on permanent disability in 1998 due to stroke that left him with various deficits. I would like to take him on vacation in June, out of the country. However, I am wondering where I can get some sort of official identification for travelling.

If you will be taking your husband out of the country, you need to get him a US passport which will soon be required for any American attempting to "return" to the US from anywhere abroad, even a vacation. A US passport counts as "official identification." If you are attempting to obtain a document that explains or certifies your husband's medical condition, the best you'll be able to do there is a statement from his doctor.

Thanks, your comments and my thinking are along the same line. I have his passport, and I plan to get a written notice from his doctor, before travelling. Thanks again.
