Liability of airlines re lost luggage

My suitcase was lost between Rome & Munich. The airline (Lufthansa) is requiring that I supply itemized receipts for all items in the suitcase otherwise they will not compensate the loss.
As 90% of the contents was personal clothing, which I do not have the receipts for anymore, it's starting to look like they will not even start to consider my claim.
Do I have any legal rights in this regard?
